EMOTIONAL DISORDERS

The understanding of the mind and emotions in health and disease is a significant component of Chinese medicine. There are seven main emotions: joy, grief, sadness, fear, anger, fright, and worry, which are intimately connected to bodily organs and have a reciprocal effect on one another. The effects of emotions which are unbalanced for long periods of time may be manifested in three aspects of the body: the Qi, the Blood or on the Yin aspect, while on the other hand an imbalance of Qi, Blood or Yin can effect the Shen or the Mind and Emotions.

An impairment of Qi and its normal flowing nature can cause a subtle manifestation of an emotional imbalance. Emotion may effect Qi through making the Qi rise, sink, or stagnate; depleting, knotting, and scattering the Qi or causing the Qi to rebel, or flow in a direction which is contrary to the normal flow of Qi, is also possible from emotions. The impairment of normal Qi flow can affect any organ but is seen most frequently in the Liver, Lungs, Heart and Stomach. An unbalanced emotional state may lead to damage of the internal organs, while obstruction or stagnation of the Qi connected to a particular organ may result in an unbalanced emotional state. Through proper acupuncture treatment both the physical and the emotional component of the disorder may be addressed.

Emotional disorders which can be treated through Acupuncture include:

Depression

Acute and chronic depression can be treated through Acupuncture. It is an effective treatment for physical pain, which causes the manifestation of depression. Patients can expect an improvement in sleep and appetite soon after starting treatment. Through acupuncture, there is a relief in the amount of depression, which helps patients feel better and enjoy life more. Acupuncture can also be used to reduce dosage or increase effectiveness of anti-depressant medications.

Stress

Acupuncture is an excellent treatment for stress and stress-related conditions from high blood pressure to headaches or muscular tightness. Most patients notice increased relaxation and feelings of well-being within seconds of needle insertion. With continued treatment these effects become longer lasting and can persist past the course of acupuncture. Acupuncture services can be prove a tonic for your body. After treatment you can feel better and cozy.

Insomnia

Acupuncture treatment can significantly improve issues with sleep deprivation. By relaxing the body, treatment can help remove impediments to sleep. It is important to note that every patient is different and treatment time may vary. Once the acupuncturist has established the pattern and causes for the insomnia, treatment can be tailored to the individual’s needs. Chronic inability to sleep can pose problems in your ability to perform daily activities due to constant fatigue in the body.

Anxiety

Acupuncture can reduce physical symptoms attributed with anxiety, such as tightness in the chest, rapid heartbeat and breathing, digestive disturbance, headache and insomnia. It can also reduce the mental/emotional symptoms and instill a feeling of calm and peace.
