Skin problems are usually caused by internal disharmonies, such as lack of Qi and blood circulation, as well as a variety of environmental factors. Skin ailments are also a result of stress, poor diet choices, and the individual’s genetic constitution. Acupuncture and Eastern herbs are used to treat both the root cause and symptoms of problematic skin conditions. Depending on the condition, individualized treatment may include Acupuncture and/or the use of Chinese herbs, which can produce immediate results depending on the severity of the skin condition.

Acne

Acne is a common skin disease characterized by pimples on the face, chest, and back. It occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. It is a very common skin condition, which affects people of all races and age, but it is most common in teenagers and young adults. Acupuncture treatments address the blockages in the flow of Qi and subsequent eruptions of acne, and can be effective in ameliorating the condition and preventing its return. Our treatment includes acupuncture, as well as dietary changes, and the use of herbal medicine.

Eczema

Eczema is an acute or chronic noncontagious inflammation of the skin, characterized by redness, itching, and the outbreak of lesion, which may discharge serous matter and become encrusted and scaly. People who have eczema often suffer from asthma and allergies. The cause of atopic dermatitis is unknown, but the disease seems to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Eczema is also associated with a malfunction in the body’s immune system, which can be addressed through acupuncture treatment.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is defined as a chronic skin disorder characterized by circumscribed red patches covered by thick, dry silvery adherent scales. Currently four million Americans are affected by it, and it is slightly more common in women than in men. Psoriasis is most common in fair-skinned people and extremely rare in dark-skinned individuals. Normal skin cells mature and replace dead skin every 28-30 days. Psoriasis causes skin cells to mature in less than a week. Because the body can’t shed old skin as rapidly as new cells are rising to the surface, raised patches of dead skin develop on the arms, back, chest, elbows, legs, nails, folds between the buttocks, and scalp. Through Acupuncture treatment, focal points are targeted to promote the replacement of dead skin cells, which accumulate forming psoriasis on outer skin layers.
